Simulation supports tests in laboratory and weaving

New approaches for developing technical meshes in solid-liquid separation

Product development and optimisation is the order of the future. The business unit SOLID WEAVE of GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG has made a breakthrough in the area of technical meshes, resulting in greatly reduced development phases. GKD designs and optimises customised mesh constructions on the computer instead of in the laboratory and weaving mill. Mesh parameters, such as maximum glass beads, filtration efficiency, media flow, pressure drop or bubble point, are calculated and visualised with complex mathematical algorithms. The actual optimisation process is shown via a real-time CFD simulation. GKD can now make accurate predictions of mesh properties for specific customer applications - which previously took several weeks to one month - within just a few days. In the application of a vacuum filter presented here, a GKD mesh used as filter fabric and police filter was to be optimised. The result even surpassed high customer expectations.
