Iron Mosque with GKD mesh
New landmark of the Malaysian seat of government is the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, up to 70 percent constructed of steel. The distinctive architecture of the religious building - due to its construction material also called the Iron Mosque - is supported by 4300 m² stainless steel mesh of GKD - Gebr. Kufferath AG. The shimmering spiral mesh type Escale 7x1 was used to clad the 20 façade-high and eight-metre-wide arched windows of the Mosque. In this connection, the metal mesh not only fulfils aesthetic requirements, but also protects its congregation dependably against sun and driving rain. The simultaneous filtration of the air flow makes the stay enjoyably cool. Thus the Mosque, which is located right next to the newly installed Putrajaya lake, offers its visitors protection and calmness for their ritual location all year long.
